So, what’s the role?
As a Data Steward, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and security of Kin’s data assets. You’ll be responsible for fostering a culture of data stewardship and accountability across the entire organization, which will involve designing, implementing and enforcing automated data governance policies, standards, and procedures aimed at supporting data management and compliance initiatives.
A day in the life could include:
Leading a governance committee with members from the entire organization tasked with designing best practices, implementing policies, standards, and procedures to ensure effective data lifecycle and management practices. This involves:
- Establishing trust and relationships with stakeholders while defining data governance requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Creating data quality standards and metrics to monitor the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data.
- Developing and maintaining a centralized metadata catalog to document data assets, schemas and lineage.
- Defining data access policies and classifying assets based on sensitivity, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements in order to ensure compliance with privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and GLBA.
- Implementing data security, encryption, and access controls to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or disclosure.
- Monitor data access logs and audit trails to detect unauthorized access or usage of data.
I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?
- 2+ years of experience with lakehouse architecture and federated governance protocols.
- Experience with data management tools and platforms such as Atlan, Hex, Unity Catalog.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, metadata extraction, data quality management, or metadata management roles.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, principles, and best practices.
- Previous experience with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and GLBA.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with stakeholders across different levels of the organization.
