Protect Democracy is seeking a Talent and Culture Specialist to join the small, highly collaborative team responsible for strengthening our inclusive and engaging organizational culture and growing our organization.


At Protect Democracy, we anchor our work in service to our mission: to prevent American democracy from declining into a more authoritarian form of government. Our mission is the foundation of our team, be it litigation, advocacy, or ensuring that our organization has the stellar team and strong internal culture needed to meet the urgency of the moment and the importance of this movement.


The Talent and Culture Specialist will lead initiatives that foster community, connections, and belonging within the organization, and play a central role in organizing virtual and in-person events and other team-building activities. They will also support our team in recruiting exceptional, diverse talent, maintaining an excellent candidate experience, and onboarding new hires to integrate them into our culture and ways of working.

The Talent and Culture Specialist’s specific portfolio of projects and workstreams will be based on their interests and skills and the needs of our mission. The Talent and Culture Specialist will:

  • Identify and implement ways to enhance employees’ experiences and foster belonging and connection across Protect Democracy;

  • Organize internal meetings, events, and gatherings, including large in-person team retreats;

  • Coordinate our high-touch onboarding program to seamlessly integrate new hires into our organizational culture;

  • Support our hiring and recruitment efforts, including actively recruiting candidates to ensure diverse, qualified applicant pools and serving as a liaison to candidates;

  • Contribute to other workstreams that strengthen how we develop, engage, and support talent;

  • Actively participate in brainstorming related to our impact and internal projects and other team activities.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • At least three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following:
    • Designing and managing inclusive and accessible in-person events and gatherings;

    • Planning programming related to diversity, equity, and belonging;

  • A passionate commitment to the preservation of democratic norms and institutions, and an understanding that our democracy has never fully represented communities of color;

  • Project management experience, including managing projects from idea to execution and tracking, prioritizing and balancing a diverse set of responsibilities;

  • Strong writing, communication, and diplomacy skills;

  • Ability to foster strong collaborative relationships an with people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives;

  • Rigorous attention to detail and the highest standards for excellence in execution;

  • Growth mindset and enthusiasm for giving and receiving feedback up, down and sideways;

  • Flexibility and willingness to pitch in where needed to support our mission;

  • Kindness and respect for others.


Compensation

The starting salary range for this role is $69,072 - $81,261, commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience, capabilities, and skills, and in alignment with internal equity.


About Protect Democracy

  • Flexible location. You can work from any location in the United States as long as your location allows you to complete the demands of the position and mission. Travel is required a few times a year for internal team gatherings and in-person onboarding. (Accommodations to this requirement will be made only in exceptional circumstances.) We currently have staff in Washington, DC, New York, Massachusetts, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, Utah, Kentucky, Washington, Florida, Illinois, Arizona, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Vermont, Colorado, Maryland, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Texas. We offer shared workspaces in many of these locations for staff members who enjoy working in an office environment.
